Kisumu County
Assembly goes on one month recess.
THE Kisumu County Assembly has adjourned its sittings for
the next one month so that its members can go for a one month recess.
This means that the Assembly stands adjourned from today
July 6 to August 6 this year when it will resume its sittings so as to discuss
some of the pending Bills before the Assembly.
Moving the motion on the adjournment yesterday, Kisumu
County Assembly Leader of Majority Ken Onyango said this will also give time
for the MCAs to fully connect with their families.
Onyango said MCAs have worked tirelessly at the Assembly by
debating and passing Bills and motions hence now the need for them to go on
recess for the next one month.
Onyango however said the issue of the pending bills before
the Assembly may make members to be recalled from recess to debate and pass
such Bills.
One such Bills pending before Kisumu County Assembly is the
Lake Region Economic Bill which aims at legalizing the formation of the Lake
Region Economic Bloc comprising of 14 counties with its Secretariat based in
Kisumu.
“The issue of the pending Bills before this Assembly may
make the Honorable Members to be recalled from recess for debate and passage of
such Bills and one of such Bills is the Lake Region Economic Bloc Bill,”
Onyango said.
Deputy Speaker Eric Agola chaired the session until the
adjournment motion for going to recess was debated and passed unanimously.
Last Saturday on June 30, the Kisumu County Assembly debated
and approved this financial year Budget estimates of shs 9.2 billion.
Earlier, the Assembly approved the County Integrated
Development Plan II and last Wednesday, the Assembly debated and approved the
11 names of the nominees to the Kisumu City Management Board whom Kisumu
Governor had nominated and vetted by the Assembly’s committee on Appointment
led by Speaker Onyango Oloo.
