Woman blames hospital for the death of her 2 year-old boy before operation.

A FAMILY of a middle-aged woman is in a state of mourning after they say that a health facility is to blame for the cause of death of their two-year old son.

The woman identified as Dolphin Awuor from Nyalenda estate says that she went Kisumu County Hospital last week where she was seeking treatment of her son who was sick and was to be operated.

Speaking to journalist after the incident, Awuor said medical personnel handling her son injected him last Friday with excess anesthesia before operation and this might have led to his death before undergoing operation.

Awuor said there were some delays on Friday in the morning and the baby was not taken to theatre room as scheduled and was taken to theatre room by 3:00 pm on the same day.

According to Awuor, before her baby being taken to the theatre, an anesthetist came with two syringes full of anesthesia and injected him.

“They came and dressed my baby in readiness for operation by 3:00 pm and injected him with anesthesia which to me as a medic was in excess,” she said.

She claims her baby only took five seconds after being injected with anesthesia before becoming unconscious and died, adding that the drug should take quite long before one become unconscious so as to undergo operation in the theatre room.

She claims that she asked the doctors who were to operate her but they said they could not reverse the process back, adding that this was an indication that the baby was injected with excess anesthesia.

She says what she wants is justice over what she has termed as negligence.

Chief Officer for Health Dr. Dickens Onyango while speaking on phone to a journalist confirmed that he has heard such an incident and they are investigating the matter.

The incident occurs only a few weeks before the county government of Kisumu launches the Universal Health Care system.
