THE Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company plans to increase its water and sewerage services by 13 percent by the year 2022.

Owili said the County Government of Kisumu under the Ministry of Water, Environment, Irrigation and Natural Resources has clearly laid out plans and strategies to support the utility achieve its targets and goals.

He said the government is very keen on ensuring that the company guided by its strategic plan plays its role in contribution to the achievement o the Ministry of Water’s recently launched strategic water storage program whose main objective is to increase the number of Kenyans connected to safe piped water by 9 million people by 2022.

Dr. Owili said the Kiwasco Strategic Plan outlines the company’s plans and objectives that will guide its operations for the next five years, adding that this is its second strategic plan after the first one for the period 2012 to 2017 lapsed.

Kiwasco Board of Directors Chairman Isreal Agina said the development of the strategic plan has taken a lot of effort and time.

He said he is confident that the final output is a good roadmap for the company in the next five years.
“We have seen major growth in the company and we strongly believe this strategic plan is going to steer us to greater heights.

He added that the company’s growth during the implementation of its first strategic plan of 2012 to 2917 stood at 62 percent.

Kiwasco Managing Director Thomas Odongo said the process of coming up with the strategic plan has been very consultative.

“We engaged all the relevant stakeholders to ensure inclusivity and smooth implementation process which will involve the same stakeholders,” Odongo said.

The Kiwasco Strategic Plan 2017-2022 is anchored on five key strategic priorities that includes Water and sewerage Infrastructure Development; Operational efficiency; Customer Service; Pro-poor Initiative; Financial Sustainability; Institutional Strengthening and effective Corporate Governance.

The company has identified these key priorities to help it achieve the Sustainable Development Goal number 6 which is to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
