NASA Leader Raila Odinga has told Parliamentarians to stand
firm on the fight against corruption in the country.
Odinga said the Parliamentarians should be on the right side
of the history when it comes to matters of fighting corruption.
Addressing hundreds of mourners who attended the burial of
renowned journalist cum Politician Migori Senator Ben Oluoch Okello on Monday,
the Nasa Leader accused some Parliamentary Committees of not doing their work
well when they grill those who are suspected to perpetuating corruption.
“Parliament must stand on the right side of the history in
the fight against corruption in the country,” Raila says.
He says institutions charged with the issue of fighting
corruption in the country should be left alone to do their work without
interference from any quarters.
He adds that the issue of conflict of interests should never
arise among the Members of Parliament in the fight against the vice, adding
that the issue of grilling on corruption related matters should be done without
fear or favor.
Raila has hinted that the taskforce that was recently formed
is doing a great work, adding that very soon it will come up with a conference
on how to deal with the issue of corruption in the country.
At the same time, the Nasa leader has reiterated that he is
working together with President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure the unity of the
country after very heated political undertones of last year’s electioneering
period.
Raila says the uniting the country is one of the reasons he
shook hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9 this year.
Raila said the issue of Handshake between him and President
Uhuru Kenyatta did not come as an accident.
“We agreed to meet and negotiate everything ending up with
the handshake after the talks which took a long time with President Uhuru
Kenyatta without our lieutenants," Raila said.
Raila assures the nation that by the end of President Uhuru
Kenyatta’s term in the year 2022, the country will be a united one.
“We will deal with issues of corruption, poverty, electoral
injustices among others and this will bring a united and peaceful Kenya,” Raila
said.
Raila says those criticizing the issue of handshake between
him and President Kenyatta is doing a disservice to the country.
“If Nelson Mandela could shake hands with Fredrick De Clerk
in South Africa and Yasser Arrafat of Palestine with Yitzak Rabin of Israel
then why not Raila and Uhuru here”? Raila asks.
