POLICE in Nyando Division has arrested 27 youths with crude weapons while heading to a political rally near Rabuor Market.

Nyando Officer Commanding Police Division {OCDP} Mohamed Amin says police intercepted a matatu before reaching Rabuor market where the suspects were arrested.

Speaking at Ahero Police station where the suspects are being held for interrogations, the OCPD said they arrested the 27 people with three pangas and three knives together with 2 rolls of bhang.

The OCPD says the suspects who were from Muhoroni area and were heading to a rally where it is believed they wanted to disrupt.

He says police received information from a member of the public about the suspects heading to the rally with an intention of causing chaos.

He says the suspects were in a white pick up while heading to Rabuor Market, the venue of the political rally.

Amin says the suspects will be arraigned in court once police complete investigations into the matter.

“We received information from a member of the public that some youths were being ferried in a pick up while heading to Rabuor market where there is a political rally and we intercepted the vehicle before reaching Rabuor and arrested the suspects,” he says.

Nyando MP Fred Outa who is also the ODM Nominee for Kisumu County Senatorial seat has organized a political rally at Rabuor Market so as to launch his senatorial bid and this is the event believed the suspects were heading to with an aim of disrupting it.

The arrests of the suspects alleged to have planned to cause chaos at a political rally comes only a few weeks after some rowdy youths caused chaos at the funeral of former Nyando Member of Parliament James Miruka Owuor where they heckled and chased away the current Nyando MP Fred Outa whom his security details had to shoot in the air so as to scare away the rowdy youths.
