Police operating in Kisumu County have been urged to remain neutral during this electioneering period.

A Civil Society Organization known as Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative {TEAM} Executive Director Collins George Owuor says for the sake of free, fair and credible election to be there, then all the stakeholders must now take responsibility in terms of looking at how the conduct of the forthcoming General Election is going to be.

Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday, Owuor has accused a section of Administration Police officers of having  taken sides as far as the issue of election is concerned in Kisumu County.

He claims that during the last Weekend’s funeral of former Nyando MP James Miruka Owuor where a fracas ensued in an incident where Nyando MP and Kisumu County ODM Party Senate Candidate Fred Outa was heckled and chased from the funeral, the police did nothing to contain the situation.

The TEAM Executive Director says police has a duty to protect both lives and property hence must ensure that this is done.

“The people of this County of Kisumu have already lost hope on how the police are managing things here because it was evident in Nyando recently when chaos erupted at the funeral of former Nyando MP but they did nothing. This is not good and something should be done,” he says.

He says they should be massive transfer of the police officers who are currently serving in Kisumu County ahead of the elections.

“We need people of high integrity who can help in managing the election by providing security needed but not those who have been compromised,” he adds.

Owuor has also urged the youth not to be misused by politicians to cause chaos during this electioneering period.

He says it is very disheartening that some politicians still engages the youth to cause chaos during this electioneering period.

“There is need to help in preaching peace ahead of the polls by all of us because elections will come and go but the country needs to remain peaceful before, during and after the polls,” he further says.
