Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu gets its third Archbishop
The Catholic Church Arch Diocese of Kisumu has gotten its
third Arch Bishop who has today been installed to run its affairs.
His Grace Arch Bishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba, the immediate former Bishop
for the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru has today been installed as the new
Arch-Bishop of Kisumu Archdiocese.
He has been serving as the Apostolic Administrator for four
months after his appointment to the position by Pope Francis One following the transfer
of His Grace Arch-Bishop Philip Anyolo to Nairobi Arch-Diocese.
In a colorful ceremony held at Tumsifu Center in Kisumu City
today and presided over by the Pope’s Representative {Apostolic Nuncio} to
Kenya and South Sudan Archbishop Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megan, the
congregation and leaders from both the national and County Governments welcomed
the new Archbishop to the Archdiocese of Kisumu.
In his speech, Cabinet Secretary for Defense Eugene Wamalwa said
they are praying for the new Archbishop to deliver to its mandate to the
Archdiocese of Kisumu where he has been posted and now been installed as the
Arch Bishop.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui congratulated the new
Archbishop of Kisumu Archdiocese following his appointment and the subsequent
installation.
Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili says since the
transfer of Archbishop Phillip Anyolo to Nairobi Archdiocese, the Archdiocese
of Kisumu has not been having an installed Archbishop, adding that with the now
installed new Archbishop, the Archdiocese will move on well.
The new His Grace Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba of the Catholic
Archdiocese of Kisumu during his speech said he will serve the people with
dignity and a lot of humility during his tenure as the Archbishop of the
Archdiocese.
His Grace Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba becomes the third
Archbishop of Kisumu Archdiocese replacing His Grace Archbishop
Philip Anyolo who was transferred to Nairobi Archdiocese four months ago.
His Grace Archbishop Philip Anyolo took over from retired Archbishop
Zacheaues Okoth in 2018 and served the Archdiocese for three years until 2021
December. Previously, he served in Homa Bay Diocese as the Bishop.
His Grace Archbishop Emeritus Zachaeus Okoth served as the first Arch
Bishop of the Archdiocese of Kisumu from 1992 to 2018 when he retired.
Meanwhile, the office of the Pope has appointed Bishop David
Kamau to be the Apostolic Administrator to run the affairs of the Nakuru Diocese
following the elevation of its Bishop as the new Arch Bishop of the Archdiocese
of Kisumu His Grace Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba.
The Pope’s representative {Apostolic Nuncio} to Kenya and
South Sudan Archbishop Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megan has made the
announcement in Kisumu today during the installation of the new Archbishop of
the Archdiocese of Kisumu.
