ODM Party calls for peace ahead of Azimio Rally in Kisumu on Friday

The Orange Democratic Movement Party officials in Kisumu County have called for peace ahead of the Azimio la Umoja mega rally in Kisumu this Friday.

Led by the Kisumu County ODM Party Chairman Prof. Ayiecho Olweny, the ODM executive Committee Members in Kisumu County say the Azimio La Umoja Rally scheduled to take place this Friday is an important one for Kisumu County residents and to Kenyans as a whole.

Addressing the Press at the Regional Azimio La Umoja Offices in Kisumu today, the ODM Party official claim that there is a gubernatorial aspirant who has planned to use youth to cause chaos during the rally that will be attended by the Azimio la Umoja Presidential Candidate Raila Amollo Odinga and other dignitaries.

Ayiecho says the ODM Party has already reported the matter to the police and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the motive of gubernatorial aspirant.

Ayiecho says the function is strictly to be attended by Raila and other dignitaries hence no need for one to want to cause chaos during such an important function.

“We expect, urge, advise and appeal to Kisumu residents to be peaceful during that Azimio Rally in Kisumu,” Ayiecho says.

The ODM party officials in Kisumu County also claim that a certain politician is busy dishing out money to some few youths in order to heckle some politicians during the rally on Friday.

Kisumu Central Constituency ODM Party Chairman and Market/Mlimani ward Member of County Assembly of Kisumu Seth Ochieng Kanga has urged the residents of Kisumu County to turn up in large numbers to listen to the Speakers led by ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and other luminaries.

Kanga has urged the youth not to be misused by some politicians to cause chaos during political rallies.

He has appealed to the residents of county to remain peaceful before, during and after the polls in August this year.

“We want to urge the youth to shun call by a section of politicians in Kisumu County to cause chaos during political rallies. Political intolerance is uncalled for and our people need to remain peaceful during this electioneering period,” he says.

Carren Mugah, a member of Kisumu ODM Party Executive committee and nominated MCA calls for political tolerance during this electioneering period.

She has called on the youth to shun any kind of violence in political rallies.

“We seriously need total peace during this electioneering period and we want to ask the youth not to allow politicians to use them in causing mayhem in political rallies,” she says.
