Political leaders allied
to Azimio call for tolerance ahead of August polls
A section of
Political leaders allied to Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Coalition have
called for serious political tolerance and preaching of peace ahead of the polls
slated for August 9 this year.
Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Nakuru Governor
Lee Kinyanjui say the Country is bigger than an individual and its interests
should be put first as it heads another General Elections only five months away.
Addressing the press in Kisumu today after attending the
Installation of the third Arch Bishop of the Catholic Arch Diocese of Kisumu
His Grace Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba at Tumsifu Center, the two leaders
said peace is very important as the country approaches the next General
election.
They urge politicians across the political divide to
exercise political tolerance and watch what they tell members of the public
during the political campaigns.
Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa says just the way peaceful
transition of leadership have been witnessed in church is the same way it
should be witnessed in the country after the August 9 Polls.
He says the church should be a partner with the state to
ensure that there are peaceful elections in August this year.
He has asked church leaders from various religions to embark
on praying for the country to have a peaceful election.
“We also ask our Church leaders to pray for all politicians
across the country not to utter words of incitement to the people of Kenya, before,
during and after Election,” Wamalwa says.
He urges political leaders not to utter words that can
divide Kenyans along ethnic lines.
“The August 9 Polls will come and go but our Country will
always remain after the election so it is prudent we continue staying in peace and co-exist
peacefully as Kenyans,” Wamalwa says.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui says if there is time the
country want unity then it is now during the electioneering period.
He says divisive conversations should be shunned at all cost
during this electioneering period and messages helping to bring Kenyans together
should be encouraged.
Governor Kinyanjui says Nakuru’s support for the Azimio La
Umoja One Kenya Alliance Coalition is unstoppable, adding that its flag bearer
Raila Amollo Odinga will carry the day winning the Election by a land slide and
become the fifth President of Kenya.
