CHVs deserves monthly salaries because of the nature of their work

COMMUNITY Health Volunteers across the country should paid monthly salary because the nature of work they do within the Society.

Kisumu East Constituency Parliament Aspirant Lawyer James Mwamu says the work the Community Health Volunteers do in the society of visiting and informing the communities on various issues of health is very vital indeed hence they deserve a monthly salary and not stipend.

Addressing the members of the Community Health Volunteers from Nyalenda A ward during a meet the people tour so as to unveil his agenda as the next Member of Parliament for Kisumu East constituency, Mwamu said he will petition the Ministry of Health to ensure that the CHVs are paid on a monthly basis.

He says he will present a Bill which will help in ensuring that all the Community Health Volunteers across the country get paid monthly salary.

Mwamu through Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu foundation had visited the Community Health Workers in Ragumo area within the Kisumu East Constituency and donated Covid-19 items to the Community Health Volunteers

 The Foundation’s President James Mwamu had called on the County Government of Kisumu to consider increasing the stipend given to the Community Health Workers to enable them do their work effectively.

 The Community Health Workers have lamented that the stipend they are currently offered is too little to sustain their work.

 During the meeting, a Community Health Volunteer Pamela Awino has appealed to Kisumu East Aspiring MP James Mwamu to consider nominating one of them to the County Assembly of Kisumu after the August Polls so as to champion for the interest of the CHVs within Kisumu County.

 

Philip Awiti, a CHV also said they should have a place where they meet, adding that a potable tent and chairs can be of great importance to them indeed and appealed to the aspirant to consider them on such issues.
