Nyong’o advised to follow Mbadi’s footsteps of shelving gubernatorial ambition

Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o has been advised to follow the example of the Orange Democratic Movement {ODM} Party National chairman John Mbadi who has dropped his Homa Bay gubernatorial bid.

Ken Obura who is an aspiring Governor in Kisumu County says Governor Nyong’o should shelve his ambition of seeking re-election as the Governor of Kisumu and concentrate on helping the Azimio La Umoja Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga in his Presidential bid.

Addressing the media in Kisumu today, Obura said this is the best thing for the current Kisumu Governor to do ahead of the ODM Party primaries slated this April 13.

“The Governor of Kisumu County should follow the footsteps of our ODM Party National Chairman John Mbadi who has stepped down and will now move up there to help our Presidential candidate Raila Odinga,” says Obura.

Obura claims that Governor Nyong’o won’t win the ODM Party Gubernatorial nominations hence this is the best time for him to shelve seeking a re-election as the Governor for Kisumu County.

Obura says should Governor Nyong’o insist on seeking re-elections then results will be there during the nomination process slated on April 13.

Obura’s candidature to challenge Governor Nyong’o in the ODM Party’s primaries was reached in February this year after Political Opponents of the Kisumu Governor fronted him to face off Nyong’o in the Orange Democratic Movement Party primaries in order to get the party’s ticket for the gubernatorial seat.

The five namely former Governor Jack Ranguma, Kisumu Senator Fred Outa, Former Chief Administrative Secretary Ken Obura,  Former Speaker of the County Assembly of Kisumu Onyango Oloo and former Chief of staff in Nyong’o administration Patrick Ouya endorsed Ken Obura the immediate former Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community so as to face the current Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o in the ODM Party primaries with an aim of clinching the party’s ticket during the April exercise.

Addressing the residents of Kisumu County within the Central Business District where they unveiled Obura’s candidature, Kisumu Senator Fred Outa said they are fully prepared to mobilize for the Presidential votes for Azimio La Umoja aspirant Raila Amollo Odinga in his fifth attempt to the Presidency in the August 9 polls.

Outa said they resolved to back the Former Chief Administrative Secretary to square it out with the current governor Nyong’o in the ODM party primaries.

The five said they will fully be behind Obura’s bid to clinch the ODM Party’s ticket to vie for the Governorship of Kisumu County in the August polls.

Nyong’os opponents have further resolved that should the ODM Party primaries appear shambolic and Governor Nyong’o handed over its ticket then they have another plan of unveiling another candidate to face him off in the August polls.

Obura who addressed the press and the gathering immediately after his endorsement accepted the gesture and said he will work with the entire team to ensure that he clinch the party’s ticket and vie for the gubernatorial seat during the General Elections.

Obura is campaigning on the platform of improving the health care systems, food security, provision of water, empowerment of women and the youth.

“Having a proper healthcare system in place is very key. We have money and this ensure that drugs are available in our health facilities within Kisumu County and our Doctors and nurses plus other health care providers are paid in time,” Obura says.

A senior officer at the County Government of Kisumu Department of Communications has responded to the issue and wondered why Obura wants the Governor to drop his ambition of being re-elected as the Governor.

“Why does he want the Governor to drop his ambitions, why can’t he just wait and face the Governor at the ballot, if he is a man enough, why is he crying himself lame before the main contest,?” the officer ask
